Kelowna RCMP have confirmed the person who went into medical distress Thursday afternoon has died.
BC Ambulance and the BC Coroners Service has taken over the investigation.
RCMP did not comment on the possible strange smell.
What was reported as a strange smell coming from the East Kelowna Road area has turned into a medical emergency.
At least one person was reported to be in medical distress and possibly went into cardiac arrest at about 1:30 p.m. on June 13.
East Kelowna Road at Hollywood Road South is blocked by multiple emergency vehicles. The recreational trail in the area is open.
The person appeared to be receiving medical attention on the bridge over Mission Creek.
It’s unclear what the smell was that possibly caused the person to go into medical distress.
Multiple people are gathered in the area as emergency crews assess the scene.
Traffic is backed up at Hollywood Road South and East Kelowna Road.
