The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has allocated gas tax reserve funding for two fire hall projects.

At the regional district board meeting on July 4, the board allocated $20,000 for renovation work for the Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Hall and $65,000 for the construction of the Apex Mountain Volunteer Fire Hall.

Both funding decisions were given first three readings and adoption.

The 2024 to 2028 capital budget included $250,000 to purchase a water truck for the Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Department. This funding was to come from the community works reserve.

However, the project cost less than the budgeted amount, so the $20,000 in savings is being redistributed to cover some of the renovation work at the fire hall.

The 2024 to 2028 capital budget included $2,834,247 for the construction of the Apex Mountain Volunteer Fire Hall.

his project exceeded the budgeted amount, and as a result, the $65,000 from reserve funds is being used to cover some of the construction project overages.
