Fire crews are mopping up after an early morning blaze destroyed a part of a home at 2125 Burtch Road.

The fire started around 6:30 a.m in a home located inside a condo complex at the corner of Burtch and Springfield Road.

"First unit on scene saw smoke and flames coming from the second story of the structure," said Jason Picklyk, platoon captain with the Kelowna Fire Department.

Firefighters had the blaze knocked down quickly. The upper floor and roof of the unit were badly damaged.

"There were no injuries," added Picklyck. "There was only one unit that was damaged, with fire and smoke damage."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Last week on June 10, neighbours of the same complex experienced a hedge fire that damaged a shed and multiple homes. It's not known how that fire started. It is under investigation but not suspicious in nature.

This is also the same condo complex where a fire broke out in June of last year and a cat was saved from a burning home. That blaze started in the kitchen and at the time a neighbour commented there had been other fires in the complex in the past.
