The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has authorized a borrowing agreement for road and wastewater upgrades in Summerland.

The bylaw is for the borrowing of up to $3.732 million for Prairie Valley Road upgrades and wastewater treatment system upgrades.

In April, the municipality adopted a loan authorization to borrow up to $2.4 million to complete upgrades on Prairie Valley Road upgrades.  Work includes reconstructing the roadway, adding a multi-use pathway and improving drainage.

This money will be recovered through a property tax increase.

The municipality also passed a bylaw authorizing the borrowing of up to $1.232 million for wastewater treatment plant upgrades. This work includes the construction of a new primary clarifier.

The money will be recovered through a sewer rate increase.
