In Loving Memory (1924-2024) ~
William McLean of Summerland, BC passed away on February 18, 2024 at the age of 99 years.
He was born in 1924 in Virden, MB into a close-knit family of 7. At the age of 17 he joined the RCAF and served as a wireless air gunner on a Lancaster Bomber. Post-war, William resumed his education, taking leave to work, including underground gold mines and surveys for a pulp and paper company in Ontario.
William was attracted to Northern Manitoba - The Pas, and to a dental assistant named Irene Williams. They married and raised 4 children.
He became Resources Director in MB and served with the Legion, Air Cadets, School Board and Sports Clubs. I
rene was happiest amid grandchildren, tending to her flowers, spending time overlooking the lake and hosting family and visitors. Dad was a member of the Summerland Golf and Country Club from 1986 - 2019.
William is sadly predeceased by his wife, Irene, in 2008; son, Brad, in 1984; daughter, Heather in 1996.
He is survived by his warmly supportive sons, Ritch (Diane) of Summerland and Howard (Ana) of Sylvan Lake, AB; son-in-law, Allan Gee Sr. of Summerland; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Summerland Legion, Branch 22, 14205 Rosedale Avenue.
