PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given as follows:

ADVANCE ELECTOR REGISTRATION

Are you eligible to vote at the Recreation Centre Referendum on November 4, 2023? Is your name on the current list of electors?

If you are not sure, you can find out by calling the Chief Election Officer or visiting the District of Summerland Municipal Hall located at 13211 Henry Ave, PO Box 159 Summerland, BC V0H 1Z0, phone 250-404-4037. The Corporate Services Department/Chief Election Officer is available from 8:15 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday to Friday (excluding holidays) and Mondays BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. To schedule an appointment, please call 250-404-4037.

Advanced elector registrations will be accepted at the District of Summerland Municipal Office until 4:00pm on September 8, 2023. Advanced registration will no longer be available after that date. Voting day registration will still be available.

In order to register in advance, an elector must submit a completed, signed application and accompanying documents to the District of Summerland Corporate Services Department located at 13211 Henry Ave, Summerland, BC, before the above deadline.

ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS

RESIDENT ELECTORS:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the referendum, November 4, 2023; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a resident of the District of Summerland on the day of registration; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS MUST:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day, November 4, 2023; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a registered owner of real property in the District of Summerland for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law; and
  • the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
  • if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.
