Legendary music by legendary musicians is set to make another impression in town.
The second annual Gary Cable Project fundraising concert takes the Vernon Performing Arts Centre stage Friday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m.
The Legendary Rock Live event features special guest Al Harlow of Prism and it’s all in support of the Community Foundation North Okanagan (CFNO).
The Gary Cable Project is a nine-piece band including a full horn section, comprised of Canada’s top live and session players; an all-star group of musicians who have recorded and performed and toured with legends in the music industry.
“I have the pleasure to share the stage with eight of the finest musicians anywhere, including two current members of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame,” said band leader Gary Cable. “At the end of the day, it’s all about the music; we perform, and help keep alive, some of the greatest music ever recorded. And at this stage of our careers, we have an opportunity to give back to the community.”
For the second year in a row, all proceeds will benefit CFNO.
“We are delighted to be the chosen charity for this concert,” says Leanne Hammond, CFNO executive director. “The Gary Cable Foundation raised over $3,500 to support CFNO, which will help the organization in creating positive lasting local impact.”
The CFNO was created in 1975 as a 360-degree funder and continues to support arts and culture, education, environment, health and recreation, and social services. Since its inception, the Foundation has granted $13.5 million to charities working to make the region a better place to live, work, and play.
“We chose the community foundations as concert proceeds recipients as they seem to represent ‘boots on the ground’ dealing with a lot of specific needs in each community,” said Cable as the projects three Okanagan shows last year raised $20,000 for three community foundations.
He urges those who came out last year to come again, as the show is different each year.
“If you saw us in September 2023, you will see 20 new songs, and we may only repeat two or three favourites.”
